Depending on your nationality and country of residence, you may need a visa to enter Italy. Visa requirements, required documents, fees, and processing times vary depending on your nationality, residence, visa type, and personal circumstances.
Participants are strongly encouraged to check their specific situation well in advance using the official Visa for Italy portal.
Visa applications must normally be submitted to the Italian Embassy, Consulate, or visa application centre responsible for the applicant’s place of legal residence. If you plan to visit more than one Schengen country, please make sure you apply through the correct country according to Schengen rules.
For short stays in the Schengen Area, some nationalities are exempt from visa requirements. However, visa-exempt travellers must still comply with the 90-days-in-any-180-days rule for stays in the Schengen Area.
ACM ISS 2026 can provide visa support letters to support visa applications for participants with an accepted contribution, invited speakers, committee members, and registered attendees.
For authors with accepted papers, a visa support letter may be requested before registration opens if it is needed for a visa application or institutional travel-funding process: ACM Visa Support Letter Information.
Once registration opens, participants will have the possibility to request the visa support letter during the registration process.

Please note that a visa support letter confirms participation in ACM ISS 2026 but does not constitute a financial guarantee. Travel, accommodation, visa, insurance, and registration costs remain the responsibility of the participant and/or their institution, unless otherwise arranged separately in writing.
Please check the recommended application window for your visa type. For Schengen short-stay visas, applications are generally submitted no earlier than six months before the intended trip and at least 15 days before travel. Processing normally takes around 15 days, but it may take longer if additional checks or documents are required.
Participants are advised to start preparing the required documentation early and to consult the relevant Italian Embassy, Consulate, or visa application centre for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
