Reasons to visit Turin (Torino)
History and heritage
Turin was the first capital of Italy, before Florence and Rome, and the city still carries that
past with pride. Its 18 Royal residences of the Savoy family are UNESCO Heritage Sites, and it is
the city that preserves the Holy Shroud.
Museums and art
Turin is a paradise for museum lovers. The Egyptian Museum is the second largest in the world after
Cairo, and the National Automobile Museum and the RAI Radio and TV Museum tell the story of
engines and broadcasting. The National Cinema Museum is housed inside the Mole Antonelliana, the
landmark of the city, whose panoramic lift offers a view over Turin. The city is also known as a
capital of contemporary art, and it holds a Leonardo da Vinci self-portrait.
Food, wine and shopping
Food is a good reason on its own to come. Turin is famous for its historical cafés and patisseries,
its chocolate and its aperitifs, and it is a pleasant city for shopping, with 18 km of arcades.
A short trip from the city, the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato vineyards are UNESCO Heritage Sites as well.
ISS 2026 participants can get discounts on public transportation and city attractions
with the Torino+Piemonte Congress Card, the official tourist pass reserved for conference
